  • eBay Giving Works Charity Ribbon MissionFish expenses policy

  • As a nonprofit, MissionFish retains a small portion of each donation we process to help offset our operating costs. We have no shareholders, and any surpluses we may generate in the future will be reinvested in fulfilling our charitable purposes.
  • MissionFish never keeps more than 5% of a donation and does not charge:
  • Any set-up fee or annual subscription fee to nonprofits for registering with MissionFish to receive donations
  • Any fees to Nonprofit Direct Sellers for using eBay Giving Works
  • Any additional card fees or transaction fees on top of our deductions
  • Specifics regarding our deductions are outlined below:
  • Nonprofit Direct Selling (items sold by nonprofits on eBay)
  • Community Selling (donations from eBay sellers)
  • eBay Give At Checkout
  • eBay Donate Now
  • Donate with PayPal
  • Sample donations made from eBay Sales
  • How does it compare?
  • Nonprofit Direct Selling (Items sold by nonprofits on eBay)

  • There is no deduction when a nonprofit sells an item on eBay Giving Works, and MissionFish does not charge nonprofits fees for using eBay Giving Works. eBay also waives its basic Insertion and Final Value fees for nonprofits when an item sells, making it extremely cost-effective for nonprofits to sell items through eBay Giving Works.
  • Community Selling (Donations from eBay sellers)

  • When eBay sellers donate the proceeds of a sale, the MissionFish deduction is 5%. We do not charge any additional processing costs to buyers, sellers or nonprofits. The seller receives a fee credit on their eBay fees from the sale of the item proportional to the amount donated.

  • eBay Give at Checkout donations

  • 5% is deducted from donations made through eBay checkout.

  • Cash donations via eBay Donate Now and other channels

  • There is a deduction of 3.75% of the amount given for gifts made through eBay Donate Now. This is one of the lowest processing rates for nonprofits that accept gifts online.
  • If the donor chooses to give an extra 3.75% (tax-deductible), we'll pass along 100% of the original donation.

  • Donate with PayPal

  • For contributions made through Donate with PayPal, the deduction is 3.75% of the amount given. If the donor chooses to give an extra 3.75% (tax-deductible), we'll pass along 100% of the original donation.

  • How does it compare?

  • The BBB Wise Giving Alliance External Link recommends that nonprofits spend less than 35% of their overall income on fundraising expenses. Our share is well below that standard.
  • Our share is also less than what many nonprofits pay for comparable fundraising activities, for things like:
  • Credit card and monthly service fees for donation processing on their own website.
  • Printing, postage and mailing lists for a direct mail fundraising appeal.
  • Marketing and consulting costs for a capital campaign.
